  • Matthew Sandy Allan Charles arrested

Matthew Sandy Allan Charles, also locally know as “Chew,” was arrested by members of the La Ronge RCMP Detachment at 8:27 p.m. on Fri. Nov. 20, with assistance from the community, according to Sgt. Carole Raymond, RCMP media relations officer.

“The community assisted in the apprehension, which is really good because it means the community is taking an active role in ensuring their community is safe,” Raymond said.

Charles appeared in Provincial Court in La Ronge Mon. Nov. 23.

La Ronge RCMP members issued a warrant for Charles’ arrest on charges of aggravated assault; the RCMP sought community assistance in the efforts to apprehend Charles, according to a RCMP new release dated Nov. 20, 2009.

Charles is charged with aggravated assault following an incident, which occurred at approximately 8 p.m. on Nov. 18.

According to the news release, Charles is charged with Breaking and Entering with intent, Mischief under $5,000, sexual assault, overcoming resistance to the commission of an indictable offence and uttering threats against a person, according to the Nov. 20 news release.

“Charles has known all his victims during the reported assaults. Police are concerned for the safety of those who know Charles,” quoted from the Nov. 20 news release.
