Council held their regular
meeting Wed. Jan. 13 in
Council chambers.
Mayor offi ce day
Mayor Thomas
Sierzycki will be in the
Mayor’s Offi ce at the
La Ronge Town Offi ce
on Fridays between 1:15
p.m. and 3:45 p.m. to
meet with the public.
Traffic
Two stop signs at
the three-way stop at
the corner of Boardman
and Studer streets are
down, Doreen Polischuk
reported. She also wanted
to remind people that the
school zone on Boardman
Street between Studer and
the Kikinahk Friendship
Centre is 30 km/hr 24
hours daily, not just
during school hours.
Snow removal
The Town has incurred
problems with people
shoveling snow onto the
roadway.
Meeting dates:
The Town of La Ronge
Council voted to retain
the second and fourth
Wednesdays as regular
council meeting dates; the
exceptions will be during
the summer months when
they meet once monthly;
the dates will be July 14
and Aug. 18.
For fl oating holiday
dates, the Council adopted
Fri. July 2 for the Canada
Day celebrations and
will decide on December
meeting dates at a future
council meeting.
Literacy Day
The Town of La Ronge
Council voted to proclaim
Family Literacy Day Jan.
27.
Property protection
Council discussed
options around
community protection
and the development of a
Citizens on Patrol (COPS)
program for the Town.
Dog Control
Discussion ensued
on the future of animal
control in the community.
Areas of discussion
included: veterinarian
services; the dog pound
and possibilities for
further development of
the building; the possible
purchase of a scanner to
use with animals, which
have been microchipped
for identifi cation
purposes; the possibility
of regionalizing services;
working with and
supporting the Northern
Animal Rescue.
Town Web site
Council members
discussed the creation of a
new Web site for the Town
of La Ronge and what
steps they would need
to follow. Three quotes
have been received and
will be reviewed before a
decision is made, council
members agreed.
Water treatment
operation
Council discussed the
pros and cons of either
outsourcing or selfoperating
the regional
water treatment plant;
the operation could be
outsourced to SaskWater
or another company
bidding for the contract to
operate water treatment
plants in the province.
More information
is needed before they
make a decision, council
members agreed.
