Martin Provenger and Henri Provenger, father and grandfather of little Cedrica, respectively, arrived at the Montreal courthouse around 11 a.m. They did not want to release a statement at this time, but said they were there to attend a civil investigation launched by a man still considered the “prime suspect” in the disappearance and murder of a 9-year-old child.

However, the hearings were adjourned until this afternoon so they could not meet Jonathan Betts in person. However, they run the risk of finding themselves in the same room after returning from their lunch break.

A $10 million lawsuit

Since Monday, Pettes' family has appeared in court as part of a $10 million lawsuit against the state, alleging that police did everything to convince the public that he was a murderer and a pedophile.

That's because Pettes is still considered by police as the “prime suspect” in the disappearance and murder of little girl Cedrica Provenger.

The incident in the summer of 2007 shocked all of Quebec. The nine-year-old's bones were found in 2015, but despite police efforts, no one has been charged.

Bettus was later targeted by a police operation, but although he was charged with child pornography, he was acquitted because the evidence against him was improperly gathered.
