The cyclist was going straight to the intersection of boulevards des Hautes-Plaines and de la Technologie when he was hit by a vehicle.

Fortunately, the baby is doing well. The mother sustained minor injuries. So he was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

According to video footage, the cyclist did not stop before crossing, but the circumstances of the crash are yet to be determined.

“What we don’t know, what we can’t see in this video, is, for example, did our cyclist, when approaching the intersection, have visual contact with the first stopped driver? The intersection, who waved him? There, then the second driver did not see it. So, there are still elements to verify. We must avoid making quick decisions,” explains Andre East, spokesman for the Catino Police Service.

Reports on social media suggest the intersection poses a safety hazard for cyclists and pedestrians.

Municipal councilor of the district Isabel N. Miron acknowledges that there are problems at this scale, but remains confident in the demands for action.

“People tear each other apart on social media. It’s like this eternal fight: the car and the cyclist. A problematic encounter, whether it’s one or a city, should show up on our management’s radar screen. But whatever happens, it will take us an analysis, and to get this analysis, it requires 311 requests,” said Mr.^me Miran.
