A young filmmaker accused of killing his mother in Montreal

A 28-year-old filmmaker in Montreal’s Centre-Sud district was formally charged Thursday with the accidental murder of his mother.

Emmanuel Gendron-Tardif appeared in a Montreal court in the morning for the most serious offenses under the Criminal Code.

The accused, who has no criminal history, will remain in custody pending further proceedings.

According to our information, he is accused of stabbing his mother Lyson Gendron to death at the Rue Fullam home he recently occupied.

Another family member of the 61-year-old woman called 911 around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday to request that officers come and check on the victim’s condition.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the mother’s body under the furniture. She had been stabbed in the neck.

Gendron-Tartiff fled the scene before police arrived.

He was found and arrested hours later on the Décarie highway.

It was only after major crime investigators interrogated him that he was arrested for murdering his mother.

Lysanne Gendron’s murder sparked a bombardment among her relatives and colleagues in Laval, where she worked as assistant director of the Department of Culture, Leisure and Sports.

“The circumstances surrounding his death are sad and shocking, and in these difficult times, my thoughts are with his loved ones,” Fabreville’s municipal councilor Claude LaRochelle wrote on Facebook.

“Her listening, her gentleness and her ideas are among the many elements that made collaborating with her so rewarding and pleasant,” said Saint-Rose councilor Flavia Alexandra Novac, describing the event as “horrific.”

Screening affected?

As for the accused, he is known in the film industry in Montreal for directing three movies, including one that will hit theaters next April.

Gendron-Tardif’s case returns to court on February 28.
