The National Institute for Health and Social Services (INESSS) estimates that the number of new hospitals affiliated with COVID-19 will double in the next two weeks.

In its new models released on Wednesday, INESSS points out that “for the first time since the fifth wave peak (mid-January), the number of new hospital admissions is increasing (18%) compared to the previous week (527 and 447).”
This increase was observed in all ages and in all regions. “Although there is a slight increase in the number of people who need to stay in intensive care, it is relatively low,” it said.
INESSS estimates that in the next two weeks, with a confidence interval of between 167 and 230, about 200 people a day will be admitted to the hospital.
The number of beds occupied by Govt patients as defined by the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) may be between levels 3 and 4. The number of people in intensive care during the same period will reach approximately 50% of the level 1 beds defined by MSSS.
“These forecasts should be interpreted with caution as an upward trend appears to have begun,” the government agency said.
“Many people are hospitalized for reasons other than COVID, but it should be noted that they are reported positive (secondary diagnosis) upon admission or during their stay. This ratio is more than half that of regular beds and about one-third of beds in intensive care”, INESSS notes.
