Allegation of mafia assault on a native

The simple fact of talking to a stranger while leaving a bar in Montreal would have earned a young man with no history of being stabbed by someone close to the Mafia, we learned Tuesday in this latest investigation.

“On the sidewalk, I saw blood running down my shoes. I’m sure he’s going to die, “said the 29-year-old, whose identity is being protected from the public.

He testified on the first day of the trial on Nicola Spagnolo.

Nicola Spagnollo, who is believed to be close to the Mafia, is under investigation for a vicious attack.

Facts that allegedly occurred on the night of August 2, 2020, when leaving the Boho Bar in Old Montreal.

At the end of the evening, the alleged victim was smoking a cigarette outside, normally chatting with a man and a woman. Suddenly the situation got out of hand.

“I started talking to them. Everything was fine. At one point I spoke to the woman. The man told me to ‘shut up,'” the witness said, admitting he was intoxicated.

The tone quickly rose between the two as they insulted each other.

“A bar attendant came and told me I had no problem with the man with whom I was screaming,” he added, adding that he did not know who the person in question was.

Then the young man fell on his stomach. Only when he saw the blood on his hands did he realize he had been stabbed. He then ran to the street, where he was aided by passersby.

“He stabbed, really stabbed, crazy!” In my head, we’re not there, ”he told Judge Yves Paradis, who is presiding over the trial in Montreal court.

According to him, only five minutes had passed between the moment he spoke to the man and woman on the street and the moment he was stabbed.

“He was very aggressive. Unfortunately I followed the aggression in my comments and it increased very quickly,” the witness said.

He was injured on one side. But due to internal bleeding, he had to have surgery again and still has a thirty centimeter scar on his abdomen.

Nicola Spagnolo was arrested a few days later. The alleged victim was identified during a parade to identify him, who was met by investigators at his home when he was released from the hospital.

“I took some time to review the photos and respond as best I could. I was afraid to blame someone who did something wrong and did nothing, ”he said.

According to police sources, Spagnolo is close to the Risuto clan. His father Vincenzo was especially the trustworthy and right-hand man of the former Godfather of the Montreal Mafia veto Risso.

The investigation continues today with the cross-examination of the alleged woman.

Several images from surveillance cameras near the crime scene will be recorded during the investigation.
