As Quebec families prepare to hit the road this holiday season, Environment Canada is expecting an “intense” low-pressure system with heavy snow and rain, depending on the sector, to fall at the wrong time.

Significant amounts of snow, strong winds and blowing snow are expected in areas north of the St. Lawrence River, while heavy rain is expected in areas south of the St. Lawrence River.

Snow is expected from Wednesday in parts of western Quebec, particularly in Abidbie-Témiscamingue, where snow showers will reduce visibility on roads.

The federal agency, which has issued a Special Weather Statement (BMS), recommends travel planning this holiday season due to severe road conditions.

On the thermometer side, the weather will be relatively cool on Thursday, but Friday will see an unusually high 7°C to 11°C, with Montreal and Estrie dropping sharply the following day.
