For some time now, the system has been taking in 15 to 20 cats each day, while less than five cats are being kept for daily adoption. As a result, Quebec’s SPA sanctuary is completely packed with 70 animals.

“The adoption and pre-adoption sections, which can hold up to 50 cats, are packed. Even if we do not do that, there are twenty other people in the shelter because there is nowhere to put them, ”explains Felix Tremblay, the organization’s director general.

The latter hopes to bring more pressure to the wave system of ups and downs with the moving time.

Adoption is free

For these reasons SPA de Québec has decided to adopt its cats for free on June 28th and 29th. However, adopters will be limited to one cat.

This is the first time the organization has celebrated its 150-year history in just three years. Although adoption is free, the public is asked to make voluntary contributions if they wish, as this decision would cost the SPA about $ 10,000.

It should also be noted that routine adoption procedures apply to ensure the animal finds a loving family to care for it.

“If the conditions are not met, we reserve the right to refuse the adoption,” he said. Tremble.

Demand is fading

Also, the director general of the organization notes that the enthusiasm for adoption has been declining for some time.

For example, it usually takes a few days to adopt missing kittens in a matter of hours.

“We wonder if the adoptions that were to take place in 2022-2023-2024 would take place during the outbreak of the epidemic in 2021? Because, if so, it could cause problems,” he fears.
