Death of a 58-year-old worker in St. Mary’s

The 58-year-old man, who lost his life Thursday in the Scierie-Marie de Beauce in Scierie Alexandre Lemay & fils, fell tragically about twelve feet while supervising maintenance work..

According to CNESST, the victim supervised the work of machines in the debarker field. He is said to have fallen through an opening in the wire mesh.

“This is the information we currently have. We have two investigators to meet with representatives of the factory workers and employers. They have begun the investigation process to better understand the causes of the accident,” said Alexandre Dumont, spokeswoman for CNESST.

The accident happened around 3.45pm on Thursday.

“The seriously injured man was taken to a hospital center. Unfortunately, he sustained injuries,” said Marythé Bolduc, a spokeswoman for Sûreté du Québec.

The worker was from St. Bernard.

Sûreté du Québec and CNESST are conducting a joint investigation. At that point, the leaders of the company did not want to speak publicly about this tragedy that was rocking this workplace. They are, however, fully cooperating with the investigation.
