Thus, the province has identified 2,203 new infections detected using PCR testing, and 968 self-reported rapid tests have been positively proven.

In doing so, Quebec has amassed an average of 1,600 daily infections in the last seven days. This is an increase of 46.4% in a week.

Keep in mind that these numbers only give an overview of the actual multiplication of the virus, as access to screening tests is still limited.

The multiplication of the BA.2 variant, known to be even more contagious than the Omigran variant that caused the fifth wave at Christmas, largely explains the stellar increase in these infections, with this new strain now causing at least two pollutants. Quebec, according to health officials.

The increase comes just two weeks after several reductions, including the end of the vaccine passport. It should also be noted that Quebec wants to withdraw the mandatory mask wearing in mid-April.

1,048 cubes occupying the hospital bed (-14) are infected with the virus. Of that number, 59 are in intensive care, an increase of two over the previous day. And 12 people have died from the disease.

On the other side of the Ottawa River, Ontario recorded a slight increase in the number of hospital admissions (667, +6), while the number of intensive care patients decreased (161, -4).

In the last 24 hours, 15 Ontarians have been infected with the virus, while 2,761 new infections have been detected by PCR tests.
