“Impossible”, trust the relatives of the unborn child

The family of a 28-year-old father who allegedly shook his child, who was just a few days old in Sherbrook, is utterly shocked and believes the mistake.

“It’s not possible, it’s impossible, the grandmother of a child who is born in two weeks and is still in critical condition in the hospital starts immediately. It’s a mistake, it’s sure. She’s not the one to do that.

Behind the wires

The man, who works in the construction industry with drawn features and wearing a gray shirt, was formally charged by video conference with a vicious attack Thursday morning in Sherbrook court.

As the Crown opposes his release, he will be remanded in custody until at least his release hearing, which is set for Tuesday. Meanwhile, he is forbidden to communicate with his wife, the mother of the newborn.

The child’s identity was banned by Judge Conrad Chaptill. It is therefore not possible to release the name of the defendant in order to protect the child.

Hospital condemnation

According to the protest, the facts may have occurred between last Friday and Tuesday.

Concerned about the child’s condition, his parents rushed him to the hospital on Wednesday to see a doctor. After seeing the baby show signs of shaking syndrome, the medical staff informed the authorities and the Department of Youth Protection (DPJ).

The newborn baby was lying between life and death on Thursday. If he succumbs to injuries, the father could face charge of infanticide.

His mother said Thursday that his wife, who gave birth, had turned completely upside down.

According to the Center for Saint-Justin’s University Hospital in Montreal, 30 babies are brought to the emergency room each year for signs of a miscarriage.

Of this number, one in five children is estimated to die.

Survivors will have severe consequences such as stroke, epilepsy, developmental delays and cognitive impairment.
