Liberals want to eliminate basic needs

“We know the cost of living situation is very difficult for everyone, especially those who listen to us today. The prices of groceries, petrol, rent, everything has gone up,” the Liberal leader told a news conference in Montreal.

The PLQ proposes that the provincial government stop levying the Quebec Sales Tax (QST) on basic necessities such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, body soap and over-the-counter medicines to counter the rising cost of living.

Under the Liberal proposal, electricity bills will also be exempt from QST, up to $ 4,000, after which they will be taxed again.

The Liberal leader took advantage of this opportunity and the CAQ’s decision to link the rise in electricity costs to inflation, a “historic error”, which could lead to an increase of about 5% in electricity tariffs next year.
