Russia has said it wants to “avoid” the breakaway region of Transnistria Moldavia being drawn into the Ukraine war.

Fears that the unrecognized republic could be a potential flashpoint in the war after comments from the Russian commander Rustam Minkayev That Moscow sought to create a corridor to the unrecognized republic in a plan for a land corridor to Crimea.

Adding to the speculation, two unexplained explosions occurred within two days. On Tuesday morning, two Russian radio antennas were blown up 30 miles north of the regional capital, Tiraspol.

Meanwhile, Monday’s explosions targeted a building housing the security services of the unrecognized republic on the border with western Ukraine. Although there is no information linking the explosions, it prompted Moldovan President Maya Sandu to convene a meeting of Moldova’s Supreme Security Council.

When asked about the possibility of Transnistria being drawn into the Ukraine war, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said, “We would like to avoid such a scenario.” The state news agency RIA reported. Let’s wait for the investigation to finish.”

This is an evolving story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
