When he was in the islands, a ticket to Montreal

A Quebecker says his vehicle made the mistake after receiving a ticket for illegal parking from the city of Montreal while he was in his yard in the Magdalen Islands, 1,340 km away.

“It’s stupid. Of course it’s wrong. At first I thought it was a transcription error. I even laughed, I did not understand it!”, Blake Stephen Vignave, a resident of Howrah-Abert.

The model was shocked when she received a letter from the Montreal Municipal Court last week. In it, the court orders him to pay a $ 54 parking ticket for a crime he committed on December 2, 2021 in Côte-Saint-Luc.

“The most ridiculous thing is that my vehicle has not left my home in the Magdalen Islands since 2020. They can check, and I have never been on a boat since,” Ms Vino said.

Did not leave the hostel

So, the 50-year-old explained his situation and filed a petition in the municipal court saying he was innocent.

“I am now being asked to appear before a judge in Montreal to justify myself, but it will cost me hundreds of dollars in my car on the plane or on the gas. I can go there in 12 hours by car and 5 hours by boat,” laments Stephen Vignave.

He contacted Joel Arsenio, a deputy of the party Quebecois, because he did not know where to return.

But why does Madeline refuse to pay? Tickets Can I turn the page on $ 54? “For me, it’s a matter of policy. I have the money. It’s absurd that I robbed myself of it for a mistake,” says Stephen Vigno.

In the analysis

For its part, the city of Montreal recognizes that “transcription errors may be made carelessly by its agents when publishing criminal statements without comment in the case in question.”

“The analysis and decision regarding the maintenance or withdrawal of the criminal report is under the action of the lawyer. An analysis will be carried out at the beginning of the week and the result will be communicated to the citizen here,” explains Guillome Rivest, the city’s public relations officer.
