‘You’ Renewed for Season 5, Netflix Says Final Season – Variety

Hello again, “you”!

On Friday, Netflix announced that “You” — the blockbuster hit starring Penn Badgley as prolific serial killer Joe Goldberg — has been renewed for a fifth and final season. Season five will see a shakeup of shows, as executive producers Michael Foley and Justin W. Law will take over Sera Gamble, who originally developed “You” with Greg Berlanti, and ran the show for its first four seasons.

“As I step back from the Daily Show to focus on new projects, I am incredibly grateful to co-creator and all-around genius Greg Berlanti, Caroline Kippence, my friends at Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment, and our partners at Warner Bros and Netflix.” Hosting the show was alongside our writers and producers. And our directors, cast, and crew are a ridiculously fun and honorable one. And I feel fortunate to have worked with such a talented and thoughtful artist as Penn Badgley. I’m proud of what we’ve all accomplished and feel so privileged to pass the torch. I’m excited to watch and support the ‘You’ team as they take Joe Goldberg’s journey to its delightfully twisted conclusion.”

It’s a storied ending to “You,” which premiered in 2018 on Lifetime, only to be cancelled. But when it dropped its streaming partner Netflix on December 26, 2018, “You” became a massive hit generating memes. Netflix quickly revived “You,” and it’s been a worldwide hit on the streamer ever since.

Accompanying the ad, Netflix teased Joe’s fate, asking, “Will Joe Goldberg finally get a doomsday?”

Sera is the most brilliant co-writer and co-writer and will remain an essential part of the ‘You’ family as Executive Producer. We intend to bring every insight possible.” “From our company for years to come. Since our friends at Alloy shared Caroline Kepnes’ wonderful book, we’ve always envisioned it as a five season ride. We’re excited to continue our relationship with Mike and Justin as they take the reins as co-showrunners and prepare to bring Joe Goldberg home.”
