For the second time in a month and a half, the Silver Alert buzzed the phones of Quebecers so they could quickly locate a vulnerable missing adult.
This is the second time police have decided to use Silver Alert since a pilot program was launched a year ago.
Similar to the Amber Alert, which is triggered to locate a kidnapped or endangered child, the Silver Alert is used to notify the public of a missing adult, who is typically suffering from cognitive impairment. Seniors age 60 and older who do not suffer from cognitive impairment may also undergo a silver alert.
Launched in January 2023, the pilot project was initially used only in three regional district municipalities (MRCs): Vallee-de-l'Or, Drummond and Joliette.
The pilot project was finally extended for six months until the following June, and extended to three regions: MRC des Muscoutains, MRC Pierre-de-Charles and the city of Rouen-Noranda.
Earlier, on the night of December 25-26, the Silver Alert had to prove itself only once to report a missing septuagenarian with Alzheimer's disease in Crabtree, Laurentians. The alert was lifted hours after it was triggered when the missing woman was found safe and sound in Trois-Rivières.
