Emmy Award-winning actor Andre PragerHe died earlier this week at the age of 61, just months before his death, his publicist Jennifer Allen told CNN on Thursday.

Best known for his Emmy Award-winning role in “Homicide: Life on the Street” and his comedy chops on the NBC series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” Braugher was a beloved and well-known actor.

Following his stunning debut as a soldier in the 1989 war-era film “Glory,” Prager has amassed dozens of film and television credits throughout his career.

Braugher received his second Emmy Award in 2006 for the FX miniseries “Thief,” earning 11 nominations overall.

He then spent three seasons opposite Ray Romano on the series “Men of a Certain Age,” before returning as cop Captain Ray Holt in Andy Samberg’s comedy series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” which ran for eight seasons. Braugher received Emmy nominations for both shows.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and PreventionLung cancer is the third most common type of cancer in the United States. For both men and women, more people in the United States die from lung cancer than from any other type of cancer.

Prager is survived by his wife, actress Amy Brabson, whom he married in 1991.
