David Letterman defends Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce against NFL backlash

David Letterman has a message for the many NFL fans upset about all the attention Taylor Swift is getting for appearing at Kansas City Chiefs games to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce: “This is beautiful. Shut up!” Hours before the Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game to secure a spot in Super Bowl LVIII, the former “Late Show” host took to social media to praise Swift and send blessings to her and Kelce.

“I don't think in the history of show business or the history of popular culture we've ever seen anything like this,” Letterman said of Swift. “Tremendous! They fill stadiums around the world and put on a three-hour show. We live in a world now where all we hear is bullshit and ugliness. Bullshit couldn't be more bullshit, and the ugliness, God hopes it doesn't get any uglier. But that's all we hear. And now Here's Taylor Swift, a shining light of goodness in the world, and she starts dating [Travis Kelce]”.

Letterman added some humor to his message by mixing Kelsey's name with fellow comedian Kelsey Grammer, but the message was strong nonetheless.

“the [Kelce] People say: Oh, no, no, no, don't bother us. We are all caught up in football. We don't want Taylor and football. And Taylor Swift's team, the Swifts, say, “Oh, we don't want a football player here with us.” [Kelce]He told Letterman. “And I say to both camps: This is a beautiful thing. Shut up!”

“It's good for football players,” Letterman continued. It's a good thing for Taylor Swift and it's a positive and happy thing for the world. Also politically, Taylor Swift is a huge force, and I think she just wants to see people doing the right thing. God bless Taylor Swift and [Kelce]”.
