Emma Stone is in talks to star in Yorgos Lanthimos' Save the Green Planet

Emma Stone, who just won a BAFTA for her performance in “Poor Things” and is nominated for an Oscar, is in talks to reunite with Yorgos Lanthimos in his remake of the South Korean fantasy comedy “Save the Green Planet.”

The project, which is expected to begin filming in the summer in the UK and New York, has been in the works for several years. Jang Joon-hwan, who directed the original South Korean film, was previously attached to direct the English-language remake, based on a screenplay by Will Tracy, whose credits include HBO's “Succession” and Searchlight's “The Menu.”

A whimsical black comedy, Save the Green Planet follows a disillusioned young man who arrests and tortures a businessman he believes is part of an alien invasion. A battle of wits erupts between the captor, his loyal girlfriend, the businessman, and the private detective.

Stone will likely play a supporting role. The project will mark the sixth collaboration between Lanthimos and Stone. The duo first worked together on The Favourite, and will next work on Kinds of Kindness, an anthology film starring Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, and Margaret Qualley. “Kinds of Kindness” is scheduled to be released later this year and could have its world premiere at Cannes. “Poor Things” was nominated for 11 Oscars, including Best Picture, Director, Actress and Supporting Actor, among others.

The new project also reteams Lanthimos with Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe at Element Pictures for the sixth time. The banner will produce the film alongside Ari Aster's Square Peg and CJ ENM (formerly CJ Entertainment).

“Green Planet” was a huge hit and cult favorite with CJ Entertainment when it was released in 2003. It won awards at fantasy festivals including Bucheon, Buenos Aires and Brussels, and in markets including Rotterdam, Tokyo Filmex and Moscow. He also received Jang the Golden Bell Award for Best New Director in Korea.
