Melissa Barrera fired from ‘Scream VII’ – The Hollywood Reporter

Melissa Barrera is no longer playing the lead role The seventh scream. The actor was dropped from the project following a series of social media posts in the wake of the war between Israel and Hamas.

“Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “Trapping everyone together, with nowhere to go, no electricity, no water… people have learned nothing from our history. As with our history, people still silently watch everything that happens. “This is genocide and ethnic cleansing.”

Spyglass, the company behind Screaming Franchise, has no comment.

Barrera helped revitalize the franchise by Screaming, the 2022 film that grossed $137.7 million globally and brought together generations of cast members for the series. Barrera’s Sam Carpenter was the hero of this film, and the older sister of Jenna Ortega’s Tera. Barrera played the title role Sixth screamwhich was released in March and has grossed over 168.9 million at the global box office.
