Netflix will send you up to 10 additional movies when your DVD service ends

Ditch your DVD player – Netflix disc rentals are going to go off with a bang.

The popular streamer announced in April that it was Termination of DVD business by mail that started it all. And when the service finally closes its doors at the end of September, it will help subscribers make one last dent in their waiting list.

The email includes a link where members can request to send “up to 10 additional discs in your mailbox”. These bonus films will be mailed on the 4th of September. 29, the last day that the DVD company will send shipments.

Usually, customers can have a maximum of 8 discs at one time with the most expensive plan of service.

“You won’t know if extra envelopes are on the way until they hit your mailbox,” says Netflix.

In announcing that it was shutting down its DVD-by-mail service, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said running the business is “becoming increasingly difficult” as the number of customers who still rent physical movies “continues to shrink.”

“These distinctive red envelopes changed the way people watched shows and movies at home – and paved the way for the transition to streaming,” he said.

Since it began shipping DVDs in March 1998, Netflix says it has sent more than 5 billion discs to more than 40 million customers.

Once customers receive their last shipment of films, Netflix says It will continue to accept returns through October 27, 2023.

A Netflix representative did not immediately respond to CNBC Make It’s request for comment.
