The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services issued a warning on Sunday. The agency said human error led to the potential for widespread contamination of the fuel.
It happened in the Port of Tampa but affected terminals in southwest Florida.
Any fuel purchased after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, at Citgo-provided stations from the Port of Tampa has a strong potential for diesel fuel contamination, according to the FDCAS.
At this time, Citgo has not published a list of stations that have received contaminated fuel. But Citgo sells gas to BJs and 7-Eleven, as well as some off-brand stations.
Experts tell WINK News that polluted gasoline and diesel have the potential to cause engine damage or render your car inoperable. Affected stations have been asked to stop selling gas until the polluting fuel is replaced.
If you purchase gas from the affected stations after 10 a.m. on Saturday, report it to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDACS). You can file a complaint by calling 1-800-HELP-FLA or online at 1-800-HELP-FLA www.fdacs.gov.

Here are the six stations that did not receive contaminated fuel, according to the US Food and Drug Administration:
- Dan’s Car Wash: 39522 US Highway 19 N, Tarpon Springs
- 7-Eleven: 3437 US Highway 19, Vacation
- 7-Eleven: 13411 Fish Hook Street, Lithia
- QUICK AND EASY STOP: 4529 B. Ridge Road, Sarasota
- Palmer’s Convenience Station: 903 Cattleman Road, Sarasota
- 2K Express 5: 6202 N 40th Street, Tampa
Eight plants have been inspected, treated and disinfected by the US Food and Drug Administration for the sale of fuel:
- 7-Eleven: 720 Chiquita Street, North Cape Coral
- 7-Eleven: 2604 Skyline Boulevard, Cape Coral
- 7-Eleven: 601 Pine Island Road. Southwest, Cape Coral
- 7-Eleven: 6050 Dean Dairy Rd., Zephyrhills
- 7-Eleven: 714 Burnt Store Road, Cape Coral
- Whole Foods Store #87: 3205 Lee Blvd., Lehigh Acres
- Faulkenburg CITGO: 5320 Faulkenburg Road, Tampa
- PJI LLC: 7977 W Dunnellon Road, Dunnellon (regular and premium fuel were not contaminated, only diesel fuel)
17 stations remain under Sell Stop order pending lab confirmation:
