Sources – Joey Bosa is restructuring deal to stay with Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers and outside linebacker Joey Bosa have agreed to a restructured contract, sources told Adam Schefter on Thursday.

Bosa had two years remaining on a five-year, $135 million contract extension he signed in 2020. He was viewed as a potential prospect or trade candidate for the Chargers with a tied salary cap in the offseason, but a restructuring kept him in Los Angeles.

Bosa has played just 14 games over the past two seasons, missing time with hamstring, foot and toe injuries. The frustration stemming from those injuries was evident when Bosa left the field in tears after injuring his foot in a Week 11 loss to the Green Bay Packers last season that sidelined him for the rest of the year.

When healthy, Bosa is still one of the best players in the league, as he showed in the Chargers' win over the Jets in Week 9 last season, where he had 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

Bosa joins Khalil Mack as star pass rushers to renegotiate their contracts and remain with the Chargers. Sources told Schefter that Mack agreed to restructure his deal on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Chargers are expected to sign former Panthers running back Hayden Hurst, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Thursday.

Hurst will be a familiar face to many in the organization. General manager Joe Hortiz was part of the Baltimore Ravens team that drafted Hurst in the first round in 2018, and Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman coached Hurst for two seasons when Roman held the same role with the Ravens. Hurst had 18 catches for 183 yards over nine games last season and will likely be the Chargers' best player.

Hurst suffered a severe concussion in Carolina's Week 9 game against the Chicago Bears. He wrote on X that he couldn't remember for up to four hours after the match. His father, Jerry, also announced on the Hurst did not play another game for the Panthers last season.
