Black ice: A risk to be taken seriously

Models expect a short ice episode. However, there is a risk to be aware of. forecast.

The snow episode expected in Quebec will not begin until Thursday morning with the first burst. Areas west of Montreal will get about ten millimeters more. Metropolis can get five like Monterey. A demarcation line is drawn in the north of the island, in the Saint-Jérôme sector. So the Laurentians should not overlook ice conditions.

Little icing

Models indicate that the first pulse of this ice episode will be small. As amounts are not expected to exceed 10 mm, the thickness of the ice may cause traffic accidents due to isolated power outages or icy roads.

This black snow will undoubtedly have consequences for southwestern Quebec. The risk of power outages due to weak winds is low. Additionally, snow accumulation should not be sufficient to break tree branches or damage infrastructure. School closures are possible, but not yet likely. The main hazard associated with this episode of ice: streets and sidewalks. If you have to go out early on Thursday, be very careful.

Isolated failures

Although the risk is low, power outages can occur. They are isolated and possible in areas located west of greater Montreal. This is where the accumulation of ice would be most significant.
