According to the Montreal Fire Department (SIM), four alarms were needed within an hour of a fire in a building on the corner of Saint-Laurent and Prince-Arthur streets.

The situation appears to have deteriorated rapidly as firefighters had to quickly raise up to four alarms to bring the fire under control. A level four alarm may require 50 to 60 firefighters.

The fourth alarm is the second to last most important alarm because the fifth alarm requires all the power to extinguish hell.
