Overwatch 2 makes a small but narratively significant change… to a seat

These seats are now indicative of the hoped-for future of Overwatch fiction, according to the game’s narrative designer.

Earlier this month, an Overwatch fan ClearTogether pointed to the New York game seat issueas we saw in a previous beta version of Monitor 2which mimics the style of hostile architecture Designed to discourage and constrain the homeless from sleeping on them.

(While these types of benches are common in New York City subway stations, most of the Grand Central bench in the real world has been removed in Manhattan.)

But as ClearTogether noted in a tweet on Wednesday, those seats have since been updated Monitor 2current beta. Obviously Blizzard took note of the criticism received. “Those were great comments,” Gavin Jurgens Ferry said:narrative designer and lead writer for Overwatch, responding to ClearTogether on Twitter.

Jurgens-Fyhrie added that Overwatch’s narrative team “decided early in the map story development that Overwatch’s NY was offering free and safe housing to people. Some of this is in Map VO, with more details planned for later.”

“How we hope the world is,” Jurgens-Fyhrie said, is a big part of our story developer.

Blizzard has made modifications to Note and watch Like this before, including before the original game was released, when Adjusting the sexual position of the hero Tracer. The developer has also tweaked in-game content for more serious reasons, including removing the names of Blizzard’s real-world employees referred to in the game and withdrawing a character appearance inspired by a professional Overwatch League player accused of sexual misconduct.
