Police officer saves dog owner from icy water

Police officer saves dog owner from icy water

On Thursday, a police officer did not hesitate to throw himself into the icy water to save the dog's owner who was trying to save his animal from a frozen river.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said Friday that one of its officers bravely intervened in Trent Hills around 12:30 p.m.

“A man was walking his dog when it stepped on the ice and fell. The owner then tried to rescue the dog and then had to call 911 when it began to drown in the icy waters of the Trent River,” the OPP recounted.

Firefighters, police officers and paramedics immediately headed in the direction, but the first to arrive was an OPP officer. Without hesitation, he rescued the person who was in danger after drowning in the river and brought him to the shore.

The dog's owner was taken to the hospital, but his life was not threatened. Unfortunately, nothing could be done to save the animal.

Provincial police took the opportunity to remind citizens to be vigilant when out in the snow. It should be at least 10 to 15 centimeters thick before it becomes safe to walk on.
