Quebec will switch from green to white this week

Except for Saguenay, the soil of Quebec cities is not white. As of January 2, Saguenay had 14 cm of snow on the ground, while all other cities had less than 10 cm. A slim 7 cm in September, the normal size for this date is 49 cm. No more than 9 cm in Val-d'Or, which is 46 cm. Poor snowmobilers must be impatient since winter started. This week may not bring them the mat they need for long trips, but at least some hope.

White for all

Light snow started falling in North Abidjan on Tuesday morning. The system is not very powerful, but it should cover the entire province. So snow will fall in almost all areas by Thursday. The system will enter from the northwest of Quebec and move southeast.

A carpet of hope

The accumulation won't be huge, so the snowblower can spend another week inside the garage. We are talking about 5 to 10 cm for Matagami and Chibougamau, sizes like Sept-Îles, Laurentides, Mauricie and Estrie. Abitibi and Témiscamingue will receive 3 to 5 cm. Similar numbers are expected in Montreal, Quebec and Caspé. Outauais and Bas-Saint-Laurent should expect no more than 3 cm of snow.

A sensible cold

Temperatures will be around seasonal norms, but moderate winds will put some bite behind the system. On Thursday, a high of -10° to -15° will be felt between -17 and -22 in Abidbie-Demiscamingue, Laurentians and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. For the rest of the region, the mercury will be between -3° and -6°, except in Gaspésie, where it will be very close to freezing, feeling between -8 and -13.
