From 2pm onwards, citizens of Sakune are invited to gather and exchange ideas together with members of the African and international community.

Organizers also invited Sagune police officers to participate. The initiative is intended to bring people together, but also to commemorate the fallen student.

“After what happened, we got a lot of calls [de la part] Members of our communities who need to be reassured, need this meditation to exchange,” explained Serge Vitalin Konu, one of the organizers.

“I was talking to a friend earlier. She told me about a young man who visited her, a young man from a community who no longer wanted to go to work. He was shocked… even in misfortune and pain, we must not forget to live together,” said another organizer, Marceline Bagasai, when met with TVA Nouvelles.

The two shared a video on social media inviting people to join them.

Representative of the Embassy in Saguenay

On Thursday, a representative from the Guinea Embassy in Canada was in Saguenay.

He specifically met with the city’s mayor, Julie Dufour, to understand what happened during this police intervention.

The representative also visited the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi (UQAC), where the deceased young man was studying. The Guinean Embassy would like to visit there to reassure the foreign student community and thank the UQAC administration for all the services used since the tragedy.

The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) continues its work to shed light on the events.

In a video captured by a local citizen, we see the young man shirtless and running towards the police with a knife in hand.

According to BEI, patrol officers attempted to shock the individual using an electric shock weapon, but it did not work.

So one of the police officers had to shoot in the direction of the man, who continued to attack them with the knife.
