Samsung's 2024 lineup of 4K and 8K Neo QLED TVs with AI technology announced

Ahead of CES 2024, Samsung has revealed its new TV lineup for 2024. Its new lineup consists of QLED, Neo QLED (Mini LED), OLED, and Micro LED TVs. In this article, let's focus on the South Korean company's new Neo QLED TVs that come in 4K and 8K resolution options. Some of these new TVs come with a newer generation processor that has faster performance and improved AI features.

The 2024 Neo QLED 4K and Neo QLED 8K TVs feature AI features

The Samsung Neo QLED 8K TVs launching this year feature 8K Mini LED panels and an NQ8 AI Gen3 processor. The NPU (Neural Processing Unit) inside the NQ8 AI Gen3 chip is twice as fast as the chip inside Samsung's Neo QLED TVs launched last year. The number of neural networks within the chip has increased from 64 to 512, providing an 8-fold increase in performance. Leveraging this performance boost, Samsung is offering several AI features, including 8K AI Upscaling Pro, Active Voice Amplifier Pro, AI Motion Enhancer Pro, and Real Depth Enhancer Pro.

8K AI Upscaling Pro upscales regular content to 8K resolution, delivering better images. Active Voice Amplifier Pro enhances dialog boxes and certain other sounds to provide a clearer, more immersive audio experience. AI Motion Enhancer Pro uses artificial intelligence to detect types of sports, track the ball, and use deep learning to reduce ball distortion, a common problem among TVs while displaying sports content. Real Depth Enhancer Pro detects subjects that the human eye is focused on and enhances their sharpness by controlling the tiny LEDs behind those objects, providing more perceived depth.

Samsung has also developed a new version of the Q-Symphony feature found in its TVs for 2024. Q-Symphony 4.0 allows a compatible TV to connect to multiple wireless speakers and subwoofers for improved control and immersion. In previous versions of this technology, a TV could only connect to one speaker system. Samsung also announced new speakers with the new Q-Symphony version, and we will have a separate article about the speakers. The new TVs also feature an Infinity Air Design that allows the TV to be thin at just 12.9mm and makes the screen appear to float in the air.

Samsung will also ship its new TVs with the 2024 version of Tizen OS, which contains accessories “designed for Samsung Gaming Hub,” Mobile Smart Connect, Multi Control, enhanced Samsung TV Plus, Vibrary, and 360 Audio.

As described in our previous article, the Designer for Samsung Gaming Hub is a partner accessory program that allows third-party brands to create accessories that work well with Samsung's new smart displays and smart TVs. One such accessory, the PDP Replay Midnight Blue, is a wireless controller that features up to 40 days of battery life and low-latency connectivity.

Mobile Smart Connect allows easy application control through smartphones. It uses the SmartThings Mobile Plugin, which turns your smartphone into a multi-functional remote control, providing users with greater control over their TVs. It uses a simple popup window and a customizable user interface.

Multi Control allows users to use a single Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for use across all their Samsung products, including smart displays, smartphones, smart TVs and tablets. Vibrary displays high-quality images of the user's favorite artists when the TV is in surround mode. Users can also enjoy photos and videos from their phones or tablets by sending them to a compatible TV. Like its smartphones, the Galaxy Buds can also connect to Samsung's new smart TVs to provide spatial audio when playing compatible games, music, and videos. Samsung TV Plus now has a more refined user interface and more content.

SW Young, President and Head of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said:Now that we live in the age of hyperconnectivity, it's no longer just about delivering high-quality visual experiences. Displays should enhance our lives both on and off the screen. Powered by on-device AI technology, Samsung's AI Displays are designed to be the centerpiece of users' homes, connecting all compatible devices to provide users with a more flexible and diverse lifestyle.

Samsung has not announced a launch time frame or pricing for the new Neo QLED TV range. We expect this information to be revealed in the next few weeks. If Samsung follows the usual launch time frame, these new TVs should be available for purchase in some countries before the end of the first quarter of 2024.
