Three people were stabbed at a wedding event in Saint-Pie

What was supposed to be a memorable evening for a young couple turned tragic on Saturday evening when the bride and her father were stabbed in front of their loved ones gathered at Saint-Pie in Monterrey.

At the center of the celebrations, a 27-year-old man stabbed three people in a room in Petit, in Saint-François arrondissement, around 10 p.m.

The three men were seriously injured, but there was no fear for their lives, said Sergeant Stephane Tremblay, a spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec.

According to information received by QMI Agency, the suspect first had an argument with his wife, then went to get a knife and then came back to stab her. He then attacked the bride and her father, stabbing the former in the back and the latter in the chest before fleeing.

The man was located and apprehended about 2 a.m. by a tactical intervention team “in a wooded area where he was hiding,” Sergeant Tremblay said.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment of a self-inflicted wound.

Investigators should meet with the man when his condition allows them to try to understand his motives. Many witnesses must be met to clarify the case.
