A fifty-year-old man who was brutally beaten last week in Saint-Roch has finally died, the fourth homicide victim in Quebec this year.

A “disorder” prompted Quebec police to go to a residence near rue de la Reine and rue des Menuisiers-Laberge between Thursday and Friday at 2 p.m.

But when they arrived at the scene, agents found a 52-year-old man, Martin Mercier, lying on the ground in the middle of the street with a severe head injury.

In the early hours of the morning, a bloody hammer was spotted around the security, although the police force did not confirm that it was the murder weapon.

The man was taken to hospital in critical condition. However, the treatment failed and he died on Wednesday morning.

The criminal commits suicide

Accused Julie Bourbeau-Péloquin, 36, was arrested and appeared the same day.

He faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault and threatening to kill a third party.

He was scheduled to return to court on Wednesday for further proceedings, but the case has been adjourned.

The woman tried to end her life in a Quebec detention center. The coroner finally confirmed his death on Wednesday afternoon.

So many murders in one year

Martin Mercier’s death brings to four the number of homicides in the province of Quebec this year. The data remained stable for the third year in a row.

Last November, Manuel Paradis, 32, was killed by a father and his son in a room in Sainte-Foy.

In May, 33-year-old Francois Bovin was stabbed to death in the middle of a street in the Beauport department.

A month ago, in the Jacques-Saint-Charles sector, Jacques Cotte lost his life while trying to save a woman in distress.

A 65-year-old man died after falling about fifty feet from the steel bar.

The number may increase

By covering a large area of ​​Quebec City and the territory of the Sûreté du Québec, the number of murders may increase further in 2022.

On November 28, at Château-Richer, a man who had been severely attacked by his own son died in his last days.
