A building is engulfed in flames in Drummondville

An old intercity terminal in Drummondville was completely destroyed Sunday by a fire that is being treated as “suspicious.”

The Drummondville City Fire Department was called to an abandoned building fire at 330 Herriot Street.

“There was a fire in the building,” Drummondville Fire Department Chief Andrew Barr said. “He was attached to a business and an apartment building. Everyone was evacuated. Forty firefighters were on the scene. They were from Drummondville, Saint-Cyrille-de-Wendover and Saint-Germain-de-Grantham.

Although the building is a total loss, the efforts of firefighters have limited the damage nearby.

“It was too dangerous for the firefighters inside, so we got our staff back,” Andrew Barr said. We finished the job with a mechanical shovel. The firefighters’ work saved the apartment building and the business. Can’t call it a win, but we did the job we had to do to limit the damage.

“We judge that the fire is of suspicious origin, which is why the file was transferred to the Sûreté du Québec for investigation”, he concluded.
