A “friend” of young drug users who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in Old Hull, Catino, well-known to teenagers, is facing fresh charges, while a dozen new victims have come forward.

Marcel Bertrand, 55, was arrested last April for various sex crimes.

The 50-year-old was well-known in downtown Hull, where he liked to take drugs with young people in the area.

But it was in this context that he used that opportunity to sexually assault the young woman.

Following the arrest of Marcel Bertrand, the Catino police believed they had undoubtedly caused more victims, but they had not yet reported the incident.

Authorities were right: Since the case was released to the media, a dozen new alleged victims have contacted police to recount their misadventures with Marcel Bertrand.

“All the information received has been checked and verified by the investigators, and to date, several victims have been met. So far, five cases have led to charges of sexual interference and sexual assault,” Cadino police said in a statement.

Bertrand’s alleged crimes took place between 2007 and 2022.

Marcel Bertrand appeared again on May 26 in the Catineau court, where new charges were formally filed against him.

Despite recent developments in the investigation, authorities believe Marcel Bertrand may have claimed more victims.

Also, because he may be a serial sex offender, the Serial Crime Investigation Management System (GECS) coordinated by the Sûreté du Québec was used in this case.

Anyone who may have been victimized by Marcel Bertrand is asked to contact the Gatineau Police at 819 243-4636, option 5.
