Restaurant damaged again by suspicious fire in Laval

Laval police are investigating a second suspicious fire that targeted a restaurant in a residential area of Somedi between Tuesday and Wednesday night.

The Laval Police Department (SPL) was alerted around 2 a.m. due to a fire alarm at Al Sultan Restaurant located in a commercial building on Curé-Labelle Boulevard.

While firefighters from the Laval Fire Department were able to contain the fire, which was still not fully extinguished, the damage to the building, especially the restaurant, was significant.

The investigation has been turned over to the SPL, which will send its investigators to analyze the scene and try to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire, spokeswoman Erica Landry said.

Curé-Labelle Boulevard is closed in both directions, between Lachapelle Bridge northbound and Lévesque Boulevard westbound toward Montreal, which will undoubtedly affect road traffic, especially during morning rush hour.

This is not the first time the Al Sultan restaurant has been the target of an arson attack, since last September, when a Molotov cocktail was hurled into its premises, causing extensive damage to the building.
