(Montreal) The Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) wants to increase the private sector’s place in healthcare by launching a call for proposals to build two new private medical centers between the Family Medicine Group (FMG) and the Hospital for the Treatment of Minor Diseases. These new centers will be located in Montreal and Quebec. A Family Medicine Group (GMF) is open seven days a week, providing 24-hour emergency treatment for minor problems not requiring hospitalization and operating rooms for day surgeries. The services provided there are provided by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ).
CAQ president François Legault made the announcement Saturday in Montreal’s east end. If his party forms the next government on October 3, a call for proposals will be launched and the centers will welcome their first patients in 2025.
“Hospital emergency rooms are still often the main point of entry for patients, because they have no other choice. They need care, but their health does not require access to specialized technical platforms and services such as hospitals, which contributes to the complexity of the network,” explains the party.
“Sometimes there is a lack of a type of establishment between the GMF and the hospital, as provided in the health plan, so that the patient receives the right care at the right time, from the right person. Care is needed, but not necessarily in the emergency room,” it added.
